Logic Pro is a great music software program to use. The following are suggestions that I would like to see implemented in Logic Pro 8.
One feature that is needed is faster Sample Loading Times and with the ability to cancel the sample using the mouse onscreen in dialog box - the key command does not seem to work, perhaps it has a bug. I predict Logic 8 might feature: ES3 with built in arpegiattor, EFM2, Takes, Podcasting, EXSMIII, Double amount of Sampled Instruments, Guitar Rhythm Player. Time will tell. General Features and Enhancements 1. Quicker loading times for samples and to be able to cancel samples on screen, show time to load times. 2. To be able to load a midi file and auto assign audio instrument sounds to it. 3. Add General Midi (GM) sounds to EXS. 4. Virtual Onscreen Guitar Keyboard (Virtual String Instrument) - To be able to view as a guitar or bass or bouzouki so you can add chords or notes and visualize where they are on the fret board and drag to Arranger or Matrix. 5. More Track Presets to include GM sound set. 6. FX plug ins via Sample Editor (Use blue design and not dark grey one). 7. Spectral View of Samples in Sample Editor and Arranger 8. Loop Browser to include Greek Music Styles like Zembekiko Tsiftetlei. 9. Text entry field for Channel Strips in Arrange so you can visualize and an up and down arrow to move sounds. Initially call it track preset. 10. 1/2 and 3/4 speed record for instant recording on transport. 11. Bypass Channel Strip icon in arranger 12. Preset Manager / Browser 13. Groove Quantize Editor. 14. Keycommand: Event Transpose by Octaves. 15. Sequence Parameters: Bypass button: A, B, C, D to compare settings also to be able to create user Sequence Parameter sets. 16. Sequence Parameter Volume for Midi regions. 17. Add to Extended Sequence Parameters: Midi Harmony 18. Option: to play one bar before the loop locators, this does not apply if you are bar 1. 19. Section List to copy sections quickly. 20. Exportable and Importable Markers. 21. Need more choice of track icons in Arranger and a way to arrange them in order to pick favourites. 22. Quick way to turn individual groups on and off. 23. Multitrack Frequency Analyzer - this will be able to tell which frequency you are using and which frequencies are clashing and gives you the option to adjust them. Useful for mastering. 24. To be able to scissor sequences by clicking at the bottom of the sequence and clicking at the top to glue them together. 25. Preferences add - always open matrix as floating window- it keeps on falling in the background which is annoying. 26. Song Position snap for paste in Matrix. 27. When adding midi files to arranger, to should automatically allocate audio instruments to it. 28. Introduce Undo / Redo within Plug Ins. 29. Easier Way to Control Midi Controllers on keyboard - need visual templates eg Axiom 49 EXS24 MIII Keep same excellent looking interface with the addition of a pane on the left or bottom to select presets quickly. Double the amount of Sample Instruments: need electric bouzouki, acoustic bouzouki, accordion. Match features with Kontact 2 and Halion 3. Need sounds like Greek Electric Bouzouki, Greek Acoustic Bouzouki, Banjo, Ukele, Harspchord, Toy Piano, thermion, Oberheim DMX drums kit, harmonica, EXS 505 (Roland 505), Yamaha R11 Drums, more choices of Fretless Bass sounds. Add different guitar instrument sounds like Rickenbacker, Gretech, Music Man. Real bass sounds from Fender, Ibanez. Need a better sounding Yamaha Piano. Sampling straight into EXS like hardware sampler. Undo / Redo built into EXS. Need samples to cater for GM, GS and XG sound sets. Sampling straight into EXS24MKIII. Matrix Editor 1. Info bar in Matrix needs to show +/- amount as you move the notes up and down using the key commands event transpose +/-. 2. When selecting a note, on the top right hand side of the window bar, the start time of selected notes and their duration should be shown as helpful information indicator. 3. Add to Global Tracks: Sections, Rhythm, Guitar Chords, 4. Global Guitar Chords - ability to add guitar chords. 5. Drum Names in Matrix 6. Marquee Tool. 7. Need Percentage Quantize in Matrix - add % Q button in Matrix so you can do it from there also. 8. Better way to edit controller in Matrix Editor. 9. Highlight incoming midi notes on vertical keys. 10. Event Float Problem: When you select chord and you want to say adjust the note positions, the event float goes blank when you play it. 11. Option to view Event Float built in Matrix 12. Bring back the option to view the Transport on the top left window in the Matrix Editor 13. Logic to support double touchpad click as right mouse click. 14. Guitar chord palette - drag chord to Matrix 15. To be able to view the whole track in the Matrix 16. When opening the Matrix, the notes should auto range zoom in so you can see them together. At times you have to scroll up and down. 17. Program names in text form so you can read them. To be able to drag then up and down so you can see the patch names changing. 18. Insert mode for pencil - pushes time forward. 19. To be able to view data like vertical bars in Hyper Editor. 20. Bar Staff in Matrix - looks like a score but uses bar matrix notes. Midi Fx Plugs as Inserts: 1. Arpegiattor 2. Auto-Accompaniment 3. Phrase Generator 4. Add Notator like the old program as a plug in Other Ideas for Features 1. Lyrics Window 2. Lyrics in Global Tracks 3. Live Performance Window: this can show lyrics and chords 4. Jukebox built in - useful for when playing live so you can add in your song sets. 5. Metronome need fixing so that it can play 9/8 as beats - it can't do a Zeimbekiko greek beat. 6. Clipboard Window - to hold midi and audio clips. 7. Hit Point like Cubase. Environment 1. Midi Guitar Object 2. Step Sequence Object 3. Touch Audio Tracks: trigger audio regions 4. Zoomable Environment 5. Midi Event Filter- to be able to filter certain notes or controllers out. 6. Enhance Chord Memorizer by including guitar and bouzouki Audio Instruments 1. Need more presets in Audio Instruments 2. Orchestra - sample based that covers all types of instruments need to be added to EXS24. 3. Modelled Piano. 4. ES3 with built in Arpegiattor 5. Guitar Rhythm Player - uses midi patterns for strumming and include a huge amount of patterns and the ability to be able to drop them in the arranger. 6. Ultrabeat - increase the built in patterns and user patterns to 100, large selection of drum patterns with fill-ins, intros. Increase Drum Kits - add more acoustic drum kits. Ultrabeat 2: Multi Lane step editor with built in mixer. Browser to select patterns quickly. Patterns include intros, fill ins and variations. Need a variety of acoustic kits. Include patterns: Reggae styles Greek Styles: Zeimbekiko (9/8), Karsilama (9/8), Syrtos, Kalamatiano (7/8), Tsamiko (6/8), Tik, Hasapiko, Hasapo Serviko, Latin Styles: Bolero, Cha-Cha-Cha, Mambo, Salsa. Other Styles like Tango, Rhumba, Waltz. 7. Ultrabass with built in midi sequencer. 8. Need an audio instrument that sounds like the Voyetra 8 by Octave Plateau from the 1980s. 9. EFM 2 10. Trance - audio instrument dedicated to dance music. Audio FX Plug Ins 1. New High quality software reverb that caters for vocals especially. To have hall, plate and spring presets that sounds crispier, warmer for vocals. 2. Analog Compressor 3. Tape Saturation Emulation - Analog Tube saturation for mastering fx 4. Sound Swiper: Automatically creates full audio sample instruments for the EXS from any audio input or audio instrument. 5. Guitar Tuner on Transport (floating) so you can tune a guitar. 6. Bass Amp: needs improvement - Di's okay, need more choices of amps. 7. Restoration Tools - Click, Crackle, Hum, Rumble 8. Guitar FX Pedal Board: include pedals like Phaser, Chorus, Compressor, Overdrive, Fuzzbox, Reverb, Digital Delay 9. In general need better sounding mastering fx and lots more presets. 10. Add a new category to plug in called Restoration and move the Desser plug in there. 12. Spectral Cleaner (restoration tool) 13. Bass Amp Pro 14. Guitar Amp Pro 2 - more choice amps, better sounds and needs a nice looking interface. 15. Audio Warmer 16. Transient Modeller 17. Harmonics Enhancer 18. Vocal Harmonizer: 8 parts 19. Dynamic Convolution 20. SSl Style Compressor / Limiter 21. 16 band compressor 22. Debreath - reduces, eliminates or even enhances breathing sounds while singing. 23. Gain reduction meter in Adlimiter plug in Track Mixer Pan on Sends Transport: 1. Guitar Tuner button access in transport. Include tuning options for bass guitars, bouzouki. 2. Add Play Lock button on Transport. Song Position Line returns to original play position Wave Burner Pro: 1. Needs better sounding mastering plug ins 2. Spectral Editing view 3. Drop Marker list in Marker Global view. 4. Preset Manager Arranger Window: 1. To be able to use the scissors to cut a loop. 2. Interactive Quantize including A, B, C compares. 3. Position SPL by clicking in the background in the Arrange section 4. Function called find peaks. 5. To be able to show peaks in the arranger with a circle on top of the sequence where it occurs. 6. I/O - multi-timbral audio instruments 7. Sample Accurate Editing in Arranger window 8. Podcasts 9. To be able to add titles to video track 10. Lock button in Marker Track to stop marker moving when editing. 11. Next to snap add: Mix: 1, 2, 3 - can select multi mixes of the arranger. Sample Editor 1. Access audio plug ins from Sample Editor 2. Do not change the colour scheme of plugins and make them black like in Soundtrack Pro. The blue colours design is easy to look at and relaxing on the eyes. 3. Palette for plug ins - drag and drop into inserts. 4. Time Machine needs better algorithms.
