Stamatis
Kokotas is famous for his long hair and trademark exceptionally
long sideburns. Stamatis Kokotas was born in Athens on March 23,
1937. He started singing in Paris in 1961 and broke into the Greek
music scene with his great hit "Στου Όθωνα τα χρόνια" in 1966. His
was very popular in the late 1960s and 1970s. He has toured the USA
and appeared on American television. One of my personal favourites
is his famous song was 'Yie Mou Yie Mou' (My Son My Son) from 1977.
Georgios Dalaras
George
Dalaras (Greek: Γιώργος Νταλάρας) was born in Nea Kokinia, Piraeus
on 29 September 1949. His name is also possibly spelled as Yorgos or
Giorgos Ntalaras.
One of his most
popular albums was the Latin one from the 1980s.His father was
Loukas Daralas, a famous singer of rebetiko.

Vangelis
is a
world renowned Greek composer of electronic, new age and classical
music and musical performer.
He is best known
for his Academy Award winning score for the film Chariots of Fire
and scores for the films Blade Runner and 1492: Conquest of
Paradise.

Παπακωνσταντίνου) is a famous Greek Rock singer. He was born on 21
June 1950.
He has worked with Mikis
Theodorakis, Manos Loizos and Thanos Mikroutsikos, Antonis Vardis
and others. He most famous songs include Fovame (I fear),
Heretismata (Greetings) and Maheri *Knife song from Stavros tou
Notou" (Southern Cross).

Stelios Kazantzidis
(Greek: Στέλιος Καζαντζίδης) was a prominent Greek singer between
the 1950s and 1990s and was considered the voice of the Greek
diaspora. He was born on August 29, 1931 and passed away on
September 14, 2001.
He has worked with biggest names in the Greek music scene of the
time like composers Vassilis Tsitsanis, Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis
Theodorakis, Stavros Xarhakos and Manolis Hiotis and he has also
appeared in five movies.

He was born in Egypt to ethnic Greek parents. He was a member of
Aphrodite's Child.
As a solo artist has had many hits
including his single, Forever
and Ever which topped the charts in several countries in 1973. Other

Vassilis Tsitsanis (Greek:
Βασίλης Τσιτσάνης) was born in
January 18, 1915 and passed away in January 18, 1984. He was a Greek
songwriter and bouzouki player and and is widely regarded as one of
the founders of modern Rebetika. He was a fantastic Greek composer
of his time.
Manos Loizos (1937–1982), composer
Manos Loïzos (Greek: Μάνος Λοΐζος)
was considered one of the best Greek music composers in the 20th
century. He was born on October 22, 1937 and died on September 17,
1982. He has worked with singers like Haris Alexiou, George Dalaras
and Vasilis Papakonstantinou.

many countries, but to her Greek-speaking fans, she is known as 'Thea'
('Diva'/'Goddess').

Eleftheria Arvanitaki started her
career in the early 1980s as the singer of a popular group of
rembetika revivalists called Opisthodromiki Kompania (Greek:
Οπισθοδρομική Κομπανία means Retrograde Company). In 1985,
Eleftheria Arvanitaki began her solo career, which quickly
established her as one of the most promising female voices for the
years to come.
Her performances at WOMAD festivals
in 1998 marked a transition from performing to Greek communities
around the world to a new audience of World Music fans.
In August 2004 she participated in the closing ceremony of the
Athens Olympics. Eleftheria is of Icarian descent and was born
on October 16, 1958 in Piraeus.

name is Evridiki Theokleous (Greek: Ευρυδίκη Θεοκλέους). She was
born 25 February 1968.

Mary Linda wass the wife of
singer, composer and Greek music innovator Manolis Chiotis, whom she
also partnered in song, as one of the great musical duets of the
1950/60s. She was born Maria Dimitrakopoulou on November 9, 1935, in
Pyrgos, Elis prefecture.

Marinella (Greek: Μαρινέλλα) was
born on May 20, 1938. She was born Kyriaki Papadopoulou, in the city
of Thessaloniki in northern Greece.
She released her first song in
1957, "Nitsa Elenitsa" (Little Helen). Her early career was marked
by her collaboration with singer Stelios Kazantzidis.
Marinella was the first Greek
singer to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest of 1974,
placing eleventh with the song 'Ligo krasi, ligi thalassa kai to
agori mou' ("A little wine, a little sea and my boyfriend").
