Want a sunny alternative to the usual
European Summer holiday destinations of Spain, Greece, Italy or
France, then Croatia is a might be an alternative.

Croatia is an eastern European country
which lies east of Italy across the Adriatic Sea, has everything you'd
expect from a holiday: clear skies, blue seas, summer sun, a thriving
cafe and bar culture, exciting food and beautiful architecture.
The towns of Dubrovnik and Split on the Dalmatian coast were big
tourist spots back in the 1980's and they are now enjoying revival as
visitors rediscover just how much they have to offer. There are also
new destinations to explore, Venetian inspired towns the western
region of Istria has reinvented itself as the Croatian Rivera.
Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is a historic city on the Adriatic Sea coast in the extreme
south of Croatia, positioned at the terminal end of the Isthmus of
Dubrovnik. It is one of the most prominent tourist resorts, a seaport
and the center of the Dubrovnik-Neretva county. Dubrovnik has an
international airport of its own. The airport is located approximately
20km (12.5 miles) from Dubrovnik city center, near Čilipi.
Dubrovnik's beautiful Old Town, which you can only enter on foot by
one of three ancient gates is a highlight with a beautiful square and
a maze of streets full of traditional cafes and shops.
Split
Split is the largest and most important city in Dalmatia, the
administrative centre of Croatia's Split-Dalmatia County and is the
second largest city in Croatia. It is situated on a small peninsula on
the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea.
With its stunning ocean front and Roman-style architecture, Split is
definitely a good choice for travellers interested in culture. The
Archaeological Museum, the Maritime Museum and Diocletian's Palace are
all worth taking time to visit.
Istria
Istria is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea. The peninsula is
located at the head of the Adriatic between the Gulf of Trieste and
the Bay of Kvarner.
With its lush forests, promenade and port, the popular Istrian town of
Porec is perfect for a lazy break. If you are interested in culture,
visit the old town or the Byzantine Basilica of Euphrasius.
Zagreb
Zagreb is the capital and the largest
city of Croatia. It is a charming medieval city with architecture and
cobbled streets reminiscent of Vienna, Budapest, Prague and other
Central European capitals. Zagreb is the cultural, scientific,
economic and governmental centre of the Republic of Croatia. It is
situated between the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain and
both northern and southern bank of the Sava river at an elevation of
approximately 122 m above sea level.
It is worth spending a few days viewing
the fantastic musuems. Gornji Grad (Upper Town) and Donji Grad (Lower
Town) are the cultural, religious and commercial hub of Zagreb. This
is where most of the restaurants, bars and tourist sights are located.
Zagreb Airport (Pleso Airport) is the
main international airport of Croatia. It is located 14 km southeast
of Zagreb. It is the primary hub for Croatian flag carrier Croatia
Airlines and is also an airforce base. You can also travel to Zagreb
by train from Europe and Greece.
Day Trips
For a day trip, travel inland Croatia to visit a vineyard. The area is
proud of its wines - malvazija is a good local wine. Local slivovica
(plum brandy) and orahovac (walnut liqueur) are also worth a try. If

from Porec by hydrofoil.
