The Plot
In this hilariously offensive movie, tactless
Kazakh TV Reporter Borat
travels from his primitive home in Kazakhstan to the U.S. to make a documentary.
On his cross-country road-trip, Borat meets real people in real situations with
hysterical consequences.
When Kazakshtani TV Reporter Brat (Baron Cohen) is
sent to the USA with his director/producer Azamat (Davitian) to make a
documentary, America has no idea what's hit it. Who is this man who kisses
everyone he meets and thinks Jewish people can shape shift and are out to get
him. After offending officials and feminists in New York, he and his producer
head off to Los Angeles in search of Borat's great love, Pamela Anderson, taking
in some etiquette lessons along the way. He believed his destiny is to meet and
Mary Pamela Anderson. While Borat is left wide-eyed and astonished by what he
finds, the US of A is left in disbelief.
Review
(Reviewer Rating: 9.2/10)
This movie is
well made and worth while watching, but for people with a sensitive disposition,
be prepared to be shocked by the Borat Movie. Note you may be offended because
Borat is not politically correct. The humour may not be to all tastes, but it
was refreshing to see a different type of film at the cinema. There are some
scenes in the movie where you'll laugh out loud such as the wrestling match
between Borat and the overweight Azamat.
Verdict:
It is a very funny film which manages to ask its audience questions as to what
they are prepared to laugh at. Some people may find scenes such as the rodeo,
the church and the hotel entertaining and original, whereas, others may find the
film is pushing the boundary of what is funny and acceptable.
The movie is
entertaining and it is definitely one of the classic movies of 2006. Recommended
viewing age is 18 or over.
Did you know?
* In the movie
Borat's village is in Kazakhstan, whereas in reality it was filmed in Romania.
* The suit
Sacha Baron Cohen wears playing Borat has deliberately never been cleaned so
that he smells authentically 'foreign' to those he meets. The hair and moustache
are real; Sacha grew them for the part.
* Borat's
catchword 'Jagshemash' actually means: How are you?
* Sacha is
himself Jewish, explains Borat's racist comments as a dramatic demonstration of
how racism fees on dumb conformity as much as rabid bigotry.
